What exactly is a Liquidation sale?

What exactly is a Liquidation sale? My city is hosting a Liquidation sale this weekend and I'd like to know if it's worth going to. Also, it's to my understanding that all the products are brand new. But I'd like to hear more people say it is before I take a 25 minute trip to a place that wont do anything for me.

  1. It usually means they are trying to get rid of everything in the store by selling it at really low prices, usually because they are getting ready to get all new stuff in.
  2. Yes, a liquidation sale means a store is going out of business, so they will be selling all the brand new products from the store at a really low price for quick selling.
  3. When a store is going out of business and they want to get rid of all the stock really quickly then they have a liquidation sale. That means all the stock must go and they give huge discounts sometimes at cost or below cost to get rid of it fast. The whole idea is that keeping the store open for more days equals more overhead expense for the company or store so they would rather cut those days down and have a huge liquidation sale and get rid of everything quickly. Definetly worth going. I remember when K-mart was going out of business and they had a liquidation sale, got a lot of stuff cheap.
